Scaling Digital Transformative Inclusive Education

Project name: Scaling Digital Transformative Inclusive Education
Period: 06/2023 – 05/2025

Somalia | Tanzania

Overall goal:

To ensure that CFBL in Somalia and Tanzania enjoy access to quality education through innovative digital learning solutions, improved accessibility, and community support.

Description
The objective of the project is to utilise innovative education methods and digital transformation to ensure that all children, with a specific focus on young girls, children with special educational
needs, and other children who are vulnerable to discrimination, stigmatization, and exclusion, both socially and educationally, have equal access to high-quality education. The project will rely on the Binogi Technology, a world-leading, animated, and immersive education tool that brings quality and inclusive education to learners through a digital platform. Binogi has proven to be ideal for distance learning and is adaptive to the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged children. The material is accessible online and offline, and uses the format of short, animated videos followed by interactive quizzes along with follow-up functions for both teachers and students. The 3-5 minutes videos are designed to cover the key content and learning objectives of
each topic, whilst being short enough to hold the attention of students. The platform is designed to facilitate self-learning but is not meant to replace classroom-based teaching: on the contrary, it is a useful complement to other teaching activities and by its design, is especially helpful for children who need additional support.
The technology will be introduced in two schools in Tanzania and two additional learning centres. In Somalia, the Binogi platform will be introduced to a mobile container in a school in Puntland.
Rural communities are specifically targeted by the project, whose outcomes will inform a wider scale-up of the innovative educational platform. Training will be provided for digital learning facilitators who will guide students to navigate the online platform and lead joint afterschool activities. In addition, a selected group of teachers will be trained to use the Binogi software as a complement to their classroom studies. Finally, key stakeholders such as parents, district council members, ministries of education and change actors will be engaged in dialogue, capacity building and awareness raising aroound inclusive education practices.

Implementing organisations:
LM International will implement the project in close collaboration with Beyond Intent, who has
experience in introducing the Binogi technology in East Africa through a previous project implemented in partnership with Swedfund in Kenya between 2020 and 2021. The two partners will
be supported by a network of local delivery partners in Somalia and Tanzania, such as local faith
education providers.
